Well it's about time!
There are a lot of restaurants owned by Greeks in Charlotte, but there are no truly Greek restaurants. Until now.
After 10 years of living in Charlotte and satisfying my craving for Greek food once a year at the Greek Fest, or traveling to my home town of Chicago, we now need only go to 200 E. Bland St. at South End. The Trolley even stops at the front door.
The Greek Isles has recently opened, and we brought with us moderate expectations so not to suffer disappointment. I knew we might be on to something when the other Charlotteans in attendance knew when to yell "Opa!".
Ambience, service and décor were also very pleasing. The setting, of course, was typically Greek and included a fireplace, open kitchen, and all new comfortable interior.
The only (what's Greek for faux pas?) was that the one normal sized TV in the dining room was tuned to the Cubs game instead of Talledega qualifying. Come evening time, the screen switches to images of Greece.
Go there. I need for it to stay open.
